New Random Angst

Random Angst is changing. Stay tuned.

October 2009 Book Club

For the month of October 2009, the Random Angst book club will be reading 'The Lost Symbol' by Dan Brown.  Yes, we have succumbed to the hype and will be reading the follow up to 'The DaVinci Code'. But hey, it's supposed to be a good read.

World War Z quotes

On page 55 of the HC edition of World War Z, when the author is interviewing Breck Scott, Scott says the "the only rule that ever made sense to me" was that "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe" and that his mantra is "Fear sells."
His reasoning, although extreme, is interesting and fits well into this story of Zombies.

The Time Traveler's Wife

On the flip side of the last post (see The Poisonwood Bible), I finished this book in about 36 hours! I really got into this one and just flew through it.
Beings that I am a nerd, it was easy for me get into the whole time traveling aspect of the novel and didn't find it confusing, except for two parts. These two parts happen to be critical to the whole novel, so I'll need to get some clarification on this from the Book Club group on Thursday.
My review is forthcoming.......Stay tuned, cause I know all the readers of this blog (1 person) are on edge for my review.

The Poisonwood Bible review

Well, there is a reason why I haven't posted a review for The Poisonwood Bible (TPB), that's 'cause I never finished it! I tried and tried, but just couldn't get into it. There were parts that I liked, for example Ada's narrations and point of view of her life in Africa; but I think overall, the story just wasn't very interesting for me. So sorry.....
If anyone has a response to this or can maybe get me excited to read it again, let me know. Otherwise, TPB is going into PaperbackSwap.com box to be traded away and will be one of the 2 or 3 books that I never finished reading.

May 2009 Random Angst Book Club Selection
